Joseph Hancock, ASW
Registered Associate Clinical Social Worker #108661
Professional Style
My educational and professional experiences range from being an outdoor camp counselor, swim coach, swim instructor, entrepreneur, aquatics director, collegiate athletic academic mentor and collegiate mental health counselor.
I have centered my belief in optimizing our mental health as the foundation of all equity work.
I cherish my work supporting people in their process, and through that work, have recognized that each person's journey is unique, and that what works for some does not work for all.
My goal is to support each person’s unique needs and offer a safe relationship for people to freely explore the complexities in their journey.

The Aquatic
Explore the Resistance.
Water has been essential in my journey. Training myself and others for swim competitions presents internal and external resistance. From these challenges, I developed poise, confidence and awareness. Each skill helps me to navigate the complexities of the world. Training for a one minute swim using massive amounts of energy with limited amounts of oxygen is different from training for a two hour-six mile-endurance swim.
Each of us will undoubtedly face internal and external resistance throughout our life journey, including moments where we need to sprint and moments where we need to pace.
How will you prepare?
The Creative
Creativity is Freedom. Creativity is Human.
I started mishandling my parents' vinyl records on my fisher price record player around age six. I'd like to think that’s when I began my exploration as a DJ. After a twenty-five year hiatus, I returned to the decks with curiosity and comfort in failure. As the DJ, I tap into my curious and creative inner child, the eternal student, and act as a musical guide as people travel without leaving their physical space.
Where are you creative?
The Storyteller
A Story to Share.
My story is unique in many ways. My upbringing as a mixed race kid who navigated private and public schools across the country has given me a unique vantage point. I have found fulfillment in my experiences with a diversity of people and it brings me peace to share an accurate representation of voices outside of mainstream headlines.
There is room for multiple truths to be told.
